Taiwan Allocates Subsidies for Renovation of Older Residential Buildings

Taiwan: Taiwan’s Executive Yuan has allocated NTD 5,000 million (USD 157.81 million, EUR 145.19 million) in subsidies to support the renovation of residential buildings that are 30 years old or older. The programme aims to improve building safety and functionality. According to the National Land Management Agency, applications for renovation subsidies will be accepted by the Ministry of the Interior from May until 31 December next year. The programme covers four to six-storey apartment buildings and townhouses under six storeys. Regulations require applicants to complete exterior upgrades that improve public safety before applying for subsidies for interior renovations.

Eligible exterior works include facade repairs, rooftop waterproofing and insulation, stairwell and pipeline repairs, removal of billboards and illegal structures, and the installation of elevators and accessibility features. At least three of these improvements must be completed before interior renovation subsidies can be requested. The programme will also be linked with other initiatives, including support of up to NTD 300,000 (USD 9,469, EUR 8,711) for rooftop solar installations on buildings with roof areas of up to 1,000 square metres. Additional measures include subsidies of NTD 3,000 (USD 95, EUR 87) for energy-efficient air conditioners or refrigerators and support of up to NTD 40,000 (USD 1,263, EUR 1,161) every three years for individuals with certain disabilities, while local governments will allocate additional funds to support implementation.
