South Korea: LG has announced plans to invest KRW 9.4 trillion (USD 6.15 billion; EUR 5.25 billion) in the Yeongnam region by 2030 to expand artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and advanced manufacturing capabilities. The investment will focus on AI data centres, optical technologies, AI semiconductor core substrates and next-generation display technologies, with projects led by group affiliates in Changwon and Gumi.
The investment aligns with South Korea's regional industrial strategy, which identifies the Yeongnam region as a key hub for materials, components and equipment manufacturing while supporting projects through expedited permitting and infrastructure development. The announcement also follows LG Corp.'s previously announced domestic investment plan of KRW 100 trillion (USD 65.0 billion; EUR 55.5 billion), unveiled in March 2024, to strengthen its long-term manufacturing and technology capabilities in South Korea.
