Slovenia Allocates EUR 300 Million for Affordable Housing
Slovenia: Slovenia has introduced a EUR 300 million (USD 351 million) financing programme through SID Banka to support the construction and renovation of social and affordable rental housing. The programme comprises EUR 150 million (USD 175.5 million) each from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB), alongside an interest-rate subsidy from the Slovenian government. Municipalities, public housing funds and non-profit housing associations will be eligible for long-term financing, with loans from the EIB offering repayment periods of up to 30 years. The funding is intended to support housing projects that provide rental accommodation at regulated rates.
The programme also incorporates sustainability requirements, with all newly constructed housing units required to comply with relevant standards. The investment forms part of Slovenia's national housing objectives and the EIB Group's Action Plan for Affordable and Sustainable Housing. SID Banka will coordinate the financing and national support to facilitate housing development and renovation. The initiative builds on cooperation between the EIB and CEB and follows discussions involving European, national and local representatives on Slovenia's housing investment requirements.
