South korea: The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 18th that during the 15th Urban Planning Committee meeting held on the 17th, it approved, subject to amendments, the proposal to designate the Yongsan International Business District as an urban development zone and revise its development plan.

Following the initial notice of the zone designation and development plan on November 28 last year, the city refined and advanced the proposal while preparing the implementation plan to improve its overall completeness. On June 26, Yongsan District formally submitted a request to amend the zoning and development plan as well as the implementation plan, after which the city pursued the necessary administrative procedures. With this committee review, the groundwork has now been laid for approval of the implementation plan and commencement of construction.

Key revisions to the development plan include the creation of a pedestrian network centered on Yongsan Station, the introduction of open urban spaces, and the expansion of ground-level public areas, all aimed at improving user convenience and strengthening environmental considerations.

As the central hub of the district’s transportation system, Yongsan Station will anchor a pedestrian network extending across individual land parcels, enhancing both walkability and connectivity with public transit.

Environmental simulations also informed a revised parcel plan designed to allow natural light and airflow between buildings. The plan further establishes a green open-space system extending toward the Han River, ensuring generous ground-level spaces that integrate ecology with human activity to create a more livable urban environment.
