India: Samsung India recorded an increase in room air conditioner sales during the Navratri festive period from 22 September to 2 October, supported by recent Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms and promotional offers. The reduction of GST from 28 per cent to 18 per cent on air conditioners and other appliances resulted in lower prices and higher consumer demand. According to the company, attractive finance options, cashback deals, and extended warranties also contributed to the growth in sales.
Industry data indicated that air conditioner sales rose significantly as consumers advanced purchases following the implementation of the revised tax rates under the government’s GST 2.0 reforms. The company stated that these policy changes, combined with seasonal demand and festive discounts, boosted market activity across the HVAC segment during the first phase of India’s festive season.
