INDIA: Room air-conditioner prices in India are expected to rise about 5% this summer compared with last year, as manufacturers face higher input costs and tighter energy-efficiency regulations. Companies including Blue Star Limited said rising commodity prices, new energy labelling norms taking effect from January 2026, and global supply pressures are driving the increase.
Industry executives estimate raw material costs have increased by 8-9%, while the shift to more efficient models has added a further 5-8%, resulting in an overall cost increase of around 13%. However, lower GST has helped reduce the impact on consumers, limiting the effective retail price rise to about 5%. Despite higher prices and logistical bottlenecks, demand remains resilient as air conditioners are increasingly seen as essential during intensifying summer heatwaves.
