Romania Residential Building Permits Decline in First Eight Months
Romania: Romania issued 21,791 residential building permits during the first eight months of 2026, representing a 12.2% decline compared with the same period of 2025, according to the National Institute of Statistics. In August alone, 2,943 residential building permits were issued, with 72.5% relating to projects in rural areas. August permits declined by 16.1% year on year but increased by 1.2% compared with July.
The number of permits for office buildings reached 17 in August, compared with eight in the same month of 2025 and seven in July. Permits for other non-residential buildings totalled 550, compared with 555 a year earlier and 570 in July. In 2025, Romania issued 37,252 residential building permits, representing a 4.4% increase compared with 2024.
