Indonesia: Qatar will start building 1 million apartment units in Indonesia from April 2025 as part of the country's 3 million homes program aimed at reducing the housing shortage. The first phase of this project involves an estimated investment of USD 18-20 billion. The initiative follows a memorandum of understanding signed in January 2024 between the Indonesian government and Qatar's Qilaa International Group. Qatar also plans to expand its investment to support the construction of up to 5 million housing units in both urban and rural areas.
In addition, Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Investment Company is expected to invest in another 1 million apartments. The Indonesian government is offering unused state-owned land for these developments, including properties managed by various public agencies. The housing plan is part of President Prabowo Subianto's target to build 3 million homes annually, addressing a housing backlog of 12.7 million units.
