Octopus Energy partners with LG Electronics on heat pumps and air conditioning

UK: Octopus Energy has entered into a strategic partnership with LG Electronics to integrate LG’s heat pumps and air conditioning with Octopus’s Kraken technology platform. Kraken allows appliances to operate automatically when energy is cheapest and least carbon-intensive. The collaboration, signed at Octopus’s London headquarters, will initially roll out in the United Kingdom and Germany before expanding to other European markets.
Heating accounts for around one-fifth of Europe’s carbon emissions, and governments across the region are promoting heat pumps as a replacement for gas boilers. The UK has set a target of 600,000 installations annually by 2028. Octopus Energy has invested more than GBP 50 million (USD 63 million) in heat pump factories, training facilities and research. The partnership will combine LG’s hardware with Octopus’s software to help accelerate the transition to low-carbon heating solutions across Europe.
