NETHERLANDS: The Netherlands recorded 474 hours of negative electricity prices in the first eight months of 2025, according to data from Dutch consultancy Stratergy. This already exceeds the 458 negative-price hours registered throughout 2024. Stratergy analyst Jan Willem Zwang told pv magazine that June alone accounted for 127 hours, compared to just 12 in July. He noted that temperature fluctuations also influence the occurrence of negative prices: demand for cooling rises during hotter periods, while the efficiency of both solar panels and fossil-fuel power plants declines. The 2025 figures reflect a continuation of recent trends in the Dutch energy market; in 2024, the number of negative-price hours had already surpassed the total for 2023 by mid-August.
