Mitsubishi Electric Begins Operations at First Air Conditioner Plant in India

India: Mitsubishi Electric has commenced full-scale operations at its first home air conditioner manufacturing facility in India, located in the state of Tamil Nadu. The plant was established with an investment of 21 billion rupees (USD 232 million) and is expected to produce 300,000 inverter room air conditioners and 650,000 compressors annually. Compressors are essential components in air conditioning systems, used to circulate refrigerant. The company aims to meet rising domestic demand through local production, with India positioned as a key base for its global air conditioning business, according to its India managing director, Atsushi Takase.

In the financial year 2024, Mitsubishi Electric reported sales of 42 billion rupees (USD 464 million) in India across segments including air conditioning, factory automation, and semiconductors, with approximately half of the revenue generated from its air conditioning division. The company has set a target of achieving an average annual sales growth of 10 percent or more in its air conditioning business, including commercial systems, through to the financial year 2030.
