China/USA: Midea has become the first company to receive certification under the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute’s (AHRI) new Controls Verification Procedure (CVP), a testing standard designed to measure energy efficiency based on real-world operating conditions. Unlike previous “locked unit” tests, the CVP uses an “unlocked” configuration that replicates how systems operate in actual environments, maintaining control over key parameters such as compressor function, airflow, and thermostatic expansion valve settings. The certification follows Midea’s earlier recognition by Intertek for CVP compliance, first announced at the AHR Expo 2025.
The company stated that the certification validates the real-world efficiency of its HVAC systems and supports ongoing efforts to develop sustainable heating and cooling technologies. As part of its research initiatives, Midea’s Cold Climate Heat Pump demonstrated full heating capacity at -40°F (-40°C) under its Alaska Discovery Project. The company also provides smart energy management services that allow users to monitor and manage energy use remotely, contributing to improved operational efficiency across residential and commercial applications.
