Malaysian government raises office AC temperatures to cut energy cos

MALAYSIA: The Malaysian government has decided to raise air-conditioner (AC) temperature settings across all its offices as part of cost-saving measures to reduce energy consumption, according to MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki. The move, approved by the Cabinet, will apply to all government institutions and may allow employees to adopt more casual attire, including short-sleeved clothing.
The decision comes amid rising energy costs driven by global supply disruptions linked to tensions in Iran, affecting coal and natural gas imports. Additionally, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that government offices will implement a work-from-home policy from April 15 to further reduce fuel usage and support energy sustainability efforts.
