Lucent Building Supply Opens Showroom For Heat Pumps in Albany

USA: Lucent Building Supply has opened a new 1,200-square-foot showroom at the Lofts @ Spruce in Albany’s Sheridan Hollow neighbourhood. The company, co-owned by developer Patrick Chiou and business partner James Runko, will use the space to showcase Midea heat pumps, also known as ductless mini splits, which run on electricity and replace the need for central air systems or natural gas boilers. The systems are eligible for federal tax incentives and state rebates through NYSERDA, aligning with New York’s building electrification law that requires new low-rise buildings to be all-electric from 2024, with broader requirements to follow by 2029.

Capitalize Albany, the city’s economic development agency, marked the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Mayor Kathy Sheehan. Sheehan noted that the project comes as Albany prepares to utilise USD 400 million (EUR 368 million) in state funding for downtown neighbourhood improvements. Chiou, who is also planning a new 40-unit residential development nearby, said Lucent will host contractor training and certification workshops to support industry adoption of the technology.
