Japan – LIXIL Corporation, a leading maker of pioneering water and housing products, has announced that it will standardise the use of “PremiAL,” its recycled low-carbon aluminium, across its entire product line at no additional cost. This innovative material reduces CO₂ emissions by approximately 50% compared to aluminium made from new ingots and will be incorporated into all aluminium extrusion products manufactured by LIXIL, beginning in October 2025. Satoshi Yoshida, Executive Officer and Executive Vice President of LIXIL Housing Technology (LHT), stated that the company is committed to reducing the whole-life carbon of buildings in Japan, highlighting that the “PremiAL” series, developed through nearly 30 years of aluminium recycling expertise, is a key solution to advancing decarbonisation in both residential and commercial construction.

To support the transition towards a decarbonised society, LIXIL underscored the need to reduce emissions from the building and construction sector, which contributes 37% of global CO₂ emissions. The company noted that aluminium recycling can reduce carbon emissions by 97% compared to the use of virgin material due to its low melting point and minimal energy requirements. Following the introduction of “PremiAL R70” with 70% recycled aluminium in December 2022 and “PremiAL R100” with 100% recycled content in October 2023, LIXIL will now extend the use of “PremiAL” to all aluminium extrusion products, including those for residential and exterior applications.

In the fiscal year ending March 2025, LIXIL’s average recycled aluminium content reached 80%, though variations existed across non- “PremiAL” series extrusions. Through innovations in production and management, LIXIL has standardised the recycled aluminium content per lot and set a minimum guaranteed level of 60%.

“PremiAL” can now be mass-produced across all five of LIXIL’s domestic and international aluminium manufacturing plants, ensuring products with high environmental value are available at the same price as conventional ones. LIXIL has also obtained third-party “SuMPO EPD” verification, confirming 7.1 kg-CO₂eq emissions per 1 kg of aluminium, achieving around a 50% reduction versus new-ingot aluminium. Under its Environmental Vision 2050, LIXIL aims for Zero Carbon and Circular Living, targeting 100% recycled aluminium usage by March 2031, further reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and resource circularity.
