LIXIL Study Highlights Economic Impact of Skilled Labour Shortage in Plumbing

USA: A study commissioned by LIXIL Corp. reveals that the growing shortage of skilled labours in plumbing is significantly affecting the US economy. Conducted with John Dunham & Associates, the research estimates a shortfall of around 550,000 plumbing professionals by 2027. This gap is driven by retirements, limited vocational training, and low workforce diversity. The shortage is increasing costs, delaying projects, and impacting over 500 industries reliant on plumbing services. The study highlights that adding even a modest number of workers could save up to US$1.27 billion annually and boost economic output. It also stresses the need for coordinated efforts across education, policy, and industry to rebuild a sustainable and inclusive skilled labour pipeline.
