South Korea: LG Electronics has launched joint research initiatives with several universities globally to enhance efficiency and sustainability in its heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) products. One major component is the Global Heat Pump Consortium, including the European Consortium for Advanced Heat Pump Research (ECAHR), which in Norway showed that LG’s air-to-air heat pump using R32 refrigerant can cut energy use by up to 90% and lower carbon emissions by about 99% versus oil-fired boilers.
