Lennox unit completes validation in US DOE HVAC challenge

USA: Lennox has announced that its commercial cold climate heat pump rooftop unit is the first in the 15–25 tons category to complete laboratory validation under the United States Department of Energy’s (DOE) Commercial Building HVAC Technology Challenge. The testing, carried out independently by the DOE and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, confirmed that the unit meets or in some cases exceeds performance requirements. The prototype will be installed in a US commercial building later this year for further evaluation during winter conditions. The DOE highlights that space conditioning accounts for about 40% of commercial energy use in the country.

Lennox is one of eight manufacturers participating in the initiative. The company had earlier completed Phase 1 testing in the DOE’s Residential HVAC Challenge in 2022. The recent development was led by its Texas Product Development and Research laboratory, with efforts focused on improving performance and addressing defrost challenges for heat pumps in colder climates. The company has reported 7.91% revenue growth over the past year and maintains a long-standing record of dividend payments.
