Kuwait Introduces New Energy Efficiency Requirements for Water Heaters

Kuwait: Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has introduced a new technical code establishing minimum standards for the design and installation of water heating systems in residential and non-residential buildings. The regulation applies to all new buildings and extensions that increase electrical load, with the objective of improving energy efficiency and reducing hot water energy consumption.
Under the new code, non-residential buildings must install water heating systems capable of achieving at least 60% savings in total water heating demand. For residential buildings, property owners may choose any water heating technology provided it complies with the prescribed energy efficiency requirements. The regulation recognises technologies including solar water heaters and heat pump-based systems as compliant solutions.
The ministry stated that the new technical standards form part of Kuwait's broader efforts to improve energy efficiency in the building sector and support national energy conservation objectives by encouraging the adoption of higher-efficiency water heating systems.
