Johnson Controls to Deliver Baltic Sea Heat Pump for Neustadt’s District Heating

An industrial heat pump

Germany: Johnson Controls is supplying the German municipality of Neustadt in Holstein with an advanced heat pump system that uses seawater from the Baltic Sea to generate renewable energy for a district in the city’s harbour area. The SABROE DualPAC heat pump, designed for high-temperature applications, will provide heating output up to 700 kW, drawing around 500 kW of heat from the seawater during colder months. This energy will be distributed through a new district heating network, supplemented at peak times by additional heat sources, including a waste incineration plant and a heat storage facility. The initiative, funded by Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, represents a model for sustainable energy transition in Germany.
