Johnson Controls–Hitachi and Elsewedy Machinery Secure HVAC Contract for Egypt’s High-Speed Rail

Egypt: Johnson Controls–Hitachi Air Conditioning MEA, in partnership with Elsewedy Machinery, has been awarded the HVAC contract for Egypt’s High-Speed Rail (HSR) project. The agreement was formalised at a signing ceremony attended by representatives from both organisations. The HSR network, spanning 660 km, will connect key locations including Ain Sokhna, Alamein, Cairo, Alexandria, and 6th of October City. Once operational, the system is expected to serve 21 stations, with a projected capacity to transport over 1 million passengers and 8,500 tonnes of cargo per day. The project aims to reduce travel time and improve the country’s logistical efficiency.

As part of the collaboration, Hitachi will supply more than 3,000 variable refrigerant flow (VRF) indoor units, manufactured at its facility in Barcelona, Spain. These units have a combined cooling capacity exceeding 11,000 refrigeration tons and are certified by Eurovent, indicating their performance under high-ambient conditions. Elsewedy Machinery, a division of Elsewedy Electric Group, will manage the full scope of the HVAC delivery. This includes the supply and installation of systems, copper piping network setup, equipment commissioning, and after-sales support.
