Japanese Air-Conditioning Firm Daikin To Stay Put in the US
Daikin

US: Daikin Industries Ltd. has achieved a significant turnaround in the U.S. market, having overcome two previous unsuccessful attempts to establish a foothold. The company now operates a major production facility near Houston, Texas, featuring 23 production lines and an annual capacity of 4.7 million air conditioners. Key to its success has been the acquisition of Goodman Global Group in 2012 and the subsequent integration of four factories, enabling Daikin to leverage Japanese-style manufacturing and talent development to strengthen its competitive position in North America.

Despite securing the No. 2 market share in the U.S., Daikin faces headwinds, including potential impact from U.S. tariffs on parts sourced from Thailand and broader economic uncertainties. The company has identified ongoing challenges in optimising supply-chain resilience and cost control as it seeks to maintain momentum amid rising global competition in the air-conditioning and cooling sector.
