Italy’s Valves and Taps Sector Faces Export Challenges and New European Drinking Water Rules

Italy: Italy’s valves and taps sector, with turnover of almost EUR 10 billion and exports accounting for over 60% of revenue, faces growing geopolitical uncertainty, volatile energy and logistics costs, and stricter European drinking water requirements. Francesca Paffoni, CEO of Rubinetteria Paffoni Spa and President-designate of the Italian Association of Valve and Faucet Manufacturers (AVR), outlined these challenges at the first ANIMA Export Days 2026 in Borgosesia, which brought together 15 international buyers. Her proposed 2026–2028 presidency programme emphasises export diversification beyond traditional markets, including opportunities in Mercosur and Canada, amid tariff uncertainty in the United States. Paffoni also highlighted the need for manufacturers to adapt materials, processes, certifications and products to new European requirements, turning compliance costs into competitive advantages through quality, safety, innovation and sustainability; her appointment is due to be formalised on 12 November 2026.
