Ireland Disbursed Record EUR 616 Million in Energy Grants and Supports in 2024
Ireland: The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) allocated a record €616 million (USD 634.48 million) in grants and supports for energy upgrades and clean energy projects in 2024, a 13% increase in activity compared to 2023. Two-thirds of the funding, or €420 million (USD 432.6 million), was directed towards 54,000 home energy upgrades, with 7,700 of these homes in energy poverty. The average grant per home upgrade was €7,800 (USD 8,034). However, only 3,609 of these projects included heat pumps, indicating one in 15 upgrades involved this technology. The SEAI also launched a low-interest Home Energy Upgrade Loan Scheme in 2024 to further support energy efficiency. Nearly 40% (22,000) of the home upgrades achieved a B2 energy rating or higher.
Additionally, €52 million (USD 53.56 million), or 8.5% of SEAI’s spending, supported the electrification of private vehicles, including grants for 12,000 new electric vehicles and 15,400 EV home chargers. Businesses received €62 million (USD 63.86 million) in grants, representing 10% of total spending, supporting over 3,500 businesses through energy audit vouchers, training programs, renewable heat supports, microgeneration, and the Business Energy Upgrade Scheme. The SEAI also allocated €61 million (USD 62.83 million) to public sector pathfinder building upgrades and €22 million (USD 22.66 million) to energy research grants. This comprehensive investment underscores SEAI’s commitment to driving sustainable energy adoption across homes, businesses, and public sectors in Ireland.
