Indonesia Poised to Become World’s Fourth Largest Ceramic Producer

INDONESIA: Indonesia is on track to become the world’s fourth largest ceramic producer, driven by strong sectoral growth, rising investment and supportive industrial policies, according to the Ministry of Industry. "We are optimistic that Indonesia, with strong investments and well-targeted policies, will break into the global top four in the near future," said Taufiek Bawazier, the ministry's Director General of Chemical, Pharmaceutical, and Textile Industries. Indonesia currently ranks fifth globally with an annual production capacity of 625 million square meters, supported by a sub-sector that expanded 10.07 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2025. Between 2020 and 2024, the industry attracted Rp20.3 trillion (US$1.2 billion) in new investments and now contributes to around 10,000 jobs, with cumulative investment reaching Rp224 trillion (around US$13.5 billion).

The ministry is strengthening industrial zones in Batang, Kendal, and Semarang to bolster connectivity and access to gas infrastructure, complemented by fiscal and non-fiscal incentives to attract additional domestic and foreign investors. The 32nd World Ceramic Tiles Forum 2025, hosted in Yogyakarta, underscored Indonesia’s rising competitiveness, with Asaki reporting production utilization of 72.5 percent from January to October 2025-an improvement over 2024. Industry leaders view ongoing infrastructure, property and construction development as key drivers enabling Indonesia to advance into the global top tier of ceramic producers.
