Indonesia Considers Halting Natural Gas Exports to Prioritise Domestic Demand

Indonesia: Indonesia's government is considering halting natural gas exports to neighbouring countries to prioritise domestic demand amid concerns over supply constraints and high domestic gas prices. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said the proposal reflects the need to address domestic requirements before supplying international markets. The proposal has received support from domestic industry representatives, who expect that prioritising local consumption could improve gas availability for industrial users.
Industry Minister Muhammad Sarmuji declined to comment further while discussions remain with other ministries. He said, "This is still with other ministries. Therefore, I respect the other ministries. Later, when there is indeed an addition (of gas) for the domestic industry, I will provide a comment,". Sarmuji also highlighted the government's commitment to maintaining industrial competitiveness by ensuring access to natural gas at competitive prices and strengthening protection for domestic products against imports. The government has not yet confirmed whether the proposed export restrictions will be implemented. Source: PT Kompas Media Nusantara
