INDONESIA: In alignment with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita vision for a green economy, PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development by setting a target of constructing 10,000 low-emission homes by 2025, progressing toward a broader goal of 150,000 units by 2029. As part of this initiative, BTN is facilitating collaboration between SMEs producing eco-friendly construction materials and housing developers.

This effort is central to BTN’s long-term sustainability roadmap, which includes incorporating a minimum of 15% environmentally friendly materials in each low-emission housing unit starting in 2025. BTN’s Director of Risk Management, Setiyo Wibowo, emphasized the urgency of addressing climate change, noting that Indonesia is already experiencing its impacts.

Setiyo highlighted that BTN’s initiative supports President Prabowo’s broader green economy agenda, particularly in the housing sector. The 10,000 low-emission homes targeted for 2025 represent a foundational step toward more sustainable urban development and a collective commitment to planetary well-being.

By the end of 2024, BTN had already partnered with eight developers to construct 1,367 housing units incorporating at least 10% eco-friendly materials. If the 150,000-unit target is met by 2029, BTN estimates it will help reduce over 2.2 million kilograms of plastic waste, equivalent to 1.3 billion instant noodle packets, and cut carbon emissions by approximately 2,425 tonnes, comparable to planting 110,000 trees.
