India: The Ministry of Power is preparing to revise the Indian Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (ISEER) for air conditioners to reduce energy consumption and manage peak electricity demand during summer months. As reported by Business Standard, the new standards may raise the ISEER value for one-star split ACs from the current 3.5 to over 4 kilowatt-hours per kilowatt-hour (kWh/kWh), with proportional adjustments for higher star ratings.
Over the past 15 years, the ISEER value has increased from 2.8 to 3.4, with current performance levels ranging from 3.5 to 5.6 for split ACs and 2.9 to 3.7 for window ACs. The revision is being discussed with manufacturers and stakeholders and will be aligned with international benchmarks. "Once an agreement is reached and approved by the ministry, the new standards will be implemented in new products starting in 2027."
