India: The Government of India has extended the application deadline for the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for white goods, specifically air conditioners, until 10 November 2025. The extension follows strong interest from industry participants and growing investment commitments under the scheme. Initially launched in April 2021, the PLI scheme for white goods has a total budgetary outlay of INR 6.238 billion (USD 74.8 million / EUR 70.1 million) and is aimed at promoting domestic manufacturing, increasing component localisation, and strengthening India’s competitiveness in the global air conditioning market.Â
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) stated that this is the fourth round of applications under the scheme, which will be implemented over a seven-year period from 2021–22 to 2028–29. The initiative is part of the government’s broader manufacturing push to reduce import dependence and expand the country’s production capacity in critical consumer goods sectors.Â
