USA: A survey of U.S. homebuilders shows that sales softened in February 2026 after a strong start to the year, although buyer traffic improved to its highest level in 12 months. The share of builders reporting year-on-year order growth fell from 39% in January to 32%, while more firms noted stable or improving conditions in terms of enquiries.
However, converting interest into actual sales remains difficult due to affordability pressures, higher prices and reliance on incentives. Builders reported increased use of price reductions and promotional offers, while inventory challenges and margin pressure persisted. Regional feedback highlighted mixed conditions, with some markets seeing sluggish demand and others benefiting from pent-up spring interest. Overall, demand signals are improving, but sales growth remains constrained.
