Historic Doncaster Factory at Risk of Closure
UK: Jobs are at risk following the announcement that a historic Doncaster factory (Peglers) may face closure. The Netherlands-based Aalberts group has confirmed it is consulting on the potential closure of its Belmont Works facility in Balby. Locally known as Peglers, the plant, which features a landmark chimney, was acquired by Aalberts in 2005. According to the Doncaster Free Press, the Belmont Works on St Catherine’s Avenue has been in operation since 1904, producing plumbing fittings and heating products. Peglers was originally founded in 1899 by Francis "Frank" Pegler, and in 1904, the Belmont Works was established in Balby, becoming Peglers Ltd in 1932.
