Germany: Grohe has announced plans to close its logistics centre in Hemer by March 2027, consolidating the sale of fittings and bathroom accessories at its site in Porta Westfalica for operations across Europe. The announcement was made at the Hemer location, where employees were informed of the planned closure. IG Metall has raised objections, highlighting a previous works agreement made when the logistics division was separated from Grohe AG, which included a wage reduction of up to 20 percent in exchange for job security until 2028. The union stated that the earlier-than-expected closure breaches this agreement, and undermines the trust of the workforce. Grohe has indicated that the reduction in workforce will be managed in a socially responsible manner.
The closure affects over 200 employees, and it remains unclear if and how many may be relocated to Porta Westfalica, which was established only a few years ago. This is expected to be a topic in upcoming discussions with the works council.
