Eurovent Launches Desert Certification for HVAC Equipment in GCC Region

UAE/Middle East: Eurovent Certification has introduced a new Desert Certification programme to assess the performance of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems operating in high-temperature environments typical of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The certification tests products under temperature conditions of 35°C (T1), 46°C (T3), and operational limits up to 52°C, with additional extreme parameters for Kuwait. It aims to provide a more accurate evaluation of equipment performance in regions where cooling accounts for up to 80 per cent of total building energy consumption.

The initiative applies to Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, and introduces a new metric, the Desert Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (DSEER), to better reflect part-load performance in local climates. Testing will take place in accredited laboratories in Europe and the UAE under the Eurovent Certified Performance programmes for air conditioners, chillers, rooftop units, variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems, and IT cooling equipment. Developed in collaboration with GCC governments, the certification seeks to align equipment efficiency standards with actual regional conditions, supporting improved system reliability, lower energy use, and greater sustainability compliance.
