Europe’s Construction Sector Faces Pressure Amid Middle East Crisis

EU: The European construction industry is facing increased pressure due to the ongoing Middle East crisis, which has led to higher energy, fuel and transport costs, along with price volatility for key materials. According to a statement from the European construction federation, these conditions are affecting project pricing, supply chains and investment planning, particularly for petroleum-related inputs such as diesel, bitumen and construction chemicals. Companies are also encountering reduced predictability in logistics and procurement, with risks of delays and weaker delivery of infrastructure and housing projects.

The federation has called on European institutions to take action to maintain sector stability, including safeguarding competitiveness, ensuring access to essential materials and improving procurement frameworks. It has also highlighted the need for mechanisms to address sudden cost changes, such as price-adjustment tools and realistic project timelines. The statement noted that without such measures, there could be reduced participation in tenders, disruptions to project execution and continued pressure on the sector’s capacity to support infrastructure, housing and broader economic objectives.
