European Union: A new compliance requirement for smart toilets entering the European market took effect on 5 August 2026 following an amendment published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 4 August. Under the requirement, smart toilets placed on the EU market must undergo type testing of the water isolation module in accordance with EN 1717:2023 and obtain a declaration of conformity issued by an EU Notified Body. Products that do not meet the requirement may face refusal at customs or removal from the market.
The change affects manufacturers, exporters, importers and distributors of smart toilets, with implications for certification procedures, shipment planning and market access. Companies supplying the EU market will need to review affected models, confirm the status of testing and conformity documentation, and assess delivery schedules against the new requirements. Further attention is expected to focus on implementation details and how the requirements are applied in customs clearance and market supervision.
