USA: The US Environmental Protection Agency has introduced the RealWaterTA initiative to improve drinking water and wastewater systems by supporting utilities in upgrading aging infrastructure and meeting Safe Drinking Water Act requirements. The programme focuses on providing technical assistance in engineering, operations, financial planning and workforce development, with particular support for small and rural utilities facing resource constraints. It aims to help modernise outdated systems, improve compliance, and enhance water safety through better coordination between federal, state and local partners. Industry stakeholders have welcomed the move, highlighting the importance of durable materials, modern plumbing standards and sustained funding to reduce leaks, improve reliability and ensure long term resilience of drinking water infrastructure across the country.
