Malaysia: In a major sustainability push, ENGIE and Sunway Property announced the expansion of their joint-venture, ENGIE-Sunway DCS Sdn Bhd, to supply up to ~3,000 refrigeration tonnes of cooling capacity to eight Sunway Education buildings, including new Engineering Annex, Faculty of Engineering & Technology and Graduate Centre. The move will meet up to 60% of the campuses’ peak cooling demand and approximately 75% of their annual cooling requirements. The initial district cooling system launched in June 2025 serves the RM 2 billion (USD 22.5 million) Sunway Square mixed-use development a complex of Grade A offices, retail, a performing arts centre and university block.
The project is scheduled for completion in September 2026 and is expected to cut carbon emissions by 29%, equating to more than 48,000 tonnes of CO₂ avoided over the 24-year contract period. Building upon the ~7,000 RT facility already operating at Sunway Square, this expansion reinforces ENGIE and Sunway Property’s commitment to embedding scalable, low-carbon urban infrastructure into high-density developments.
