MALTA: Maltese and Gozitan households now have greater opportunities to access government support for adopting energy-efficient and water-saving technologies at home. Government of Malta, Energy Ministry has announced these grants. One of the most significant developments is a new grant for photovoltaic (PV) panels designed specifically for water heating. This initiative covers 50% of eligible expenses, up to a maximum of €700 (US$ 794). Unlike traditional solar water heaters, this setup enables households to generate electricity solely for heating water without impacting their PV meter cap, and it requires minimal installation work.

Additional updated schemes include:

  • Heat Pump Water Heater Grant: Increased from €1,000 to €1,400 (US$1134 to US$ 1588), covering 50% of the total cost.

  • Solar Water Heater Grant: Covers 75% of the cost, up to €1,400 (US$ 1588), with an added €500 (US$ 567) maintenance grant available after five years.

The Regulator for Energy and Water Services (REWS) also continues to support residents through various ongoing schemes:

  • Cistern Restoration: 50% of eligible costs, up to €1,000 (US$ 1588).

  • Roof Insulation and Double Glazing: 50% of retrofitting expenses, capped at €1,000 (US$ 1134).

  • Tap Water Filtration: 60% of the cost, up to €100 (US$ 113).

  • Reverse Osmosis System: Grant of up to €300 (US$ 340), depending on the system type.

These measures aim to help households reduce utility costs while contributing to environmental sustainability.

Please mention who is giving these grants and how are they doing it.
