Egypt: Egypt relocates its capital from Cairo to a newly built desert city, with China playing a central role in both its construction and ongoing operations. Located about 45 kilometers east of Cairo, the New Administrative Capital spans 700 square kilometers and is designed to accommodate over six million residents. The move aims to ease congestion in Cairo while modernising Egypt’s governance and urban infrastructure.

Developed as part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, the city’s central business district (CBD) is being constructed by China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), a state-owned firm. CSCEC recently signed an agreement to operate and maintain the CBD, covering responsibilities such as property management and the provision of integrated urban services for residents, businesses, and tourists. This marks a significant deepening of Sino-Egyptian ties and highlights China’s growing influence in Egypt’s infrastructure development strategy.
