Edinburgh Budget Confirms Landmark US$ 1.89 billion (£1.6 billion) Investment in Housing
United Kingdom

UNITED KINGDOM: Councillors have approved a balanced budget featuring a record US$ 1.89 billion (£1.6 billion) investment to tackle Edinburgh’s housing emergency and reduce poverty over the next five years. The funding will deliver thousands of affordable homes, including 2,500 for temporary accommodation and over 3,000 settled homes. The budget prioritises homelessness prevention, early family support, education and social care, while committing US$ 101.48 million (£86 million) towards extensions at Craigroyston and Queensferry High Schools.

An additional US$1.89 million (£6 million) will support health and social care services, alongside US$4.72 million (£4 million) for third-sector organisations. Roads, libraries and community facilities will also benefit from continued capital investments. Council Tax will rise by 4%, expected to be among the lowest increases in Scotland, and most fees and charges will be frozen for 12 months. The Edinburgh Visitor Levy is projected to generate up to US$ 34.22 million (£29 million) this year to support the city’s visitor economy.
