France: EDF has announced a plan valued at EUR 240 million (USD 259 million) to support the transition to electric energy among low-income households and small businesses in France. The initiative includes financial assistance for approximately 80,000 households to adopt heat pump systems, with a grant of EUR 1,000 (USD 1,080) per household that can be combined with existing support schemes. The programme is positioned within broader efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, with France continuing to import significant volumes of oil and gas.
The plan also allocates EUR 30 million (USD 32 million) to support the adoption of electric heavy goods vehicles among small and medium-sized transport operators, with grants of up to EUR 15,000 (USD 16,200) per vehicle. In addition, EUR 50 million (USD 54 million) will be used to develop 180 charging stations for heavy vehicles, while EUR 80 million (USD 86 million) is designated for preparing sites connected to the electricity grid to support energy-intensive industries and data centres.
