EAST AFRICA (KENYA): East Africa is rapidly closing the technology gap in the home appliance sector, with advanced products like AI-enabled refrigerators becoming readily available across retail outlets. The region is transitioning from a passive consumer to an active contributor in the global home appliance value chain, driven by favorable demographics, urbanization, a tech-savvy middle class, and increased investor confidence. Products once seen as aspirational—such as refrigerators, TVs, and HVAC systems—are now essential due to evolving lifestyles and climate needs.
Strategic advantages, particularly in Kenya, including strong infrastructure, access to trade routes, and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), are positioning East Africa as a viable hub for assembly and future manufacturing. Global firms like LG are showing high-level interest, with executive visits focused on expanding distribution, technical support, and local talent development.
