DTI Destroys Unregistered Ceramic Sanitaryware Worth PHP 4.6 Million

Philippines: The Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has destroyed around PHP 4.6 million (approximately USD 79,000 / EUR 74,000) worth of unregistered ceramic sanitaryware at its Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau warehouse in Marikina City. The products were confiscated as part of the agency’s ongoing enforcement operations against substandard goods that violate Republic Act 4109, also known as the Product Standards Law. The initiative coincides with the Consumer Welfare Month and forms part of the DTI’s broader campaign to ensure that only certified and compliant products are available in the market.

According to DTI Assistant Secretary Regino Mallari Jr., the confiscated sanitaryware items had not undergone proper quality and safety testing and lacked the required Philippine Standards (PS) and Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) markings. He emphasised that the agency’s monitoring and enforcement operations continue nationwide to safeguard consumers from products that fail to meet established standards.
