India: Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (India), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Voltas Limited, a Tata Group enterprise, to strengthen industry–start-up collaboration in the cooling and smart appliance ecosystem. Under the initiative, DPIIT’s Startup India initiative and Voltas will engage start-ups working in areas such as HVAC, advanced control systems, power electronics, artificial intelligence and machine learning diagnostics, IoT-enabled smart appliances, and manufacturing digitalisation. The collaboration will explore innovation challenges under the Bharat Start-up Grand Challenge and industry-focused hackathons, while selected start-ups may receive mentorship, technical guidance, testing infrastructure, and market linkage opportunities. The partnership will also support Proof-of-Concept (PoC) programmes with Voltas engineering teams and enable field trials through the company’s service network to test and refine technologies including energy-efficient cooling systems, air-quality monitoring, inverter controls, predictive maintenance, refrigerant safety systems, and digital installation and servicing tools.
