New Zealand: Daikin has opened a new multimillion-dollar logistics site in Christchurch, with the Hornby facility becoming the largest HVAC warehouse in the South Island and supporting the shift toward electric, low-emission buildings. The site expands logistics operations, develops skilled workers, and includes a system to intercept residential and commercial heat pumps to recover and recycle refrigerants before disposal. Research from Japan shows reclaimed refrigerant can cut carbon footprint by 72%–90% compared with producing and importing new refrigerant. The fully electric facility also features a 100 kW rooftop solar system, EV and material-handling charging infrastructure, and a heat recovery HVAC system.
