Cost of Major Home Building Projects Drops by Up to 28%

UK: According to Checkatrade there was a significant decline in the cost of major home building projects in the first quarter of 2025. The average cost of a building job fell to GBP 12,065 (approximately USD 15,180), representing a 14 per cent decrease from the same period last year. When comparing the first quarter of 2025 to the first quarter of 2024, the cost of the average building job dropped by 28 per cent. The average cost of kitchen fittings also declined by 14 per cent year-on-year, falling from GBP 7,509 (approximately USD 9,450) to GBP 6,093 (approximately USD 7,660).

The data further indicates that other specific service costs also experienced year-on-year reductions. Bricklaying costs declined by 14 per cent, electrician costs by 24 per cent, and plumbing costs by 17 per cent. Checkatrade attributed the decline in average costs across these categories to market trends observed over the past year. Enquiries about architectural services and home heating remained unchanged year-on-year.
