Construction Begins on £8m Affordable Housing Project in Poole
UK: Construction has begun on the near-£8m (8.8 million USD) Hillbourne housing development in Poole, which will provide 110 new affordable homes. The project, located off Kitchener Crescent in the Waterloo estate, includes 40 two-bedroom homes, 41 three-bedroom homes, and an independent living apartment with 29 one-bedroom flats. The homes, designed with modern living in mind, will be a mix of social rent and shared ownership. Funded by an 8.54million USD grant from the government’s Homes England, the scheme aims to deliver £24m in social value through employment, training, and development opportunities, including 13 new apprenticeship roles. BCP Council's cabinet member for housing, Kieron Wilson, expressed delight at the project's progress, highlighting its importance in providing good quality, sustainable, and affordable homes for residents. Barry Williams, project director of Wates Residential Construction, emphasized the commitment to creating sustainable communities and supporting local supply chains. The project, expected to be completed by summer 2026, will also feature environmental enhancements such as new trees, native hedging, a wildlife pond, and bat boxes.
