British Gas Unveils UK’s Lowest Heat Pump Rate to Boost Adoption
UK: British Gas has introduced the UK’s most competitive heat pump rate, aiming to enhance accessibility to low-carbon technology and stimulate the adoption of heat pumps nationwide.
Available to all British Gas Energy customers purchasing any air source heat pump from the company, this initiative is designed to accelerate the uptake of heat pumps across the country.
Under this new offering, British Gas is offering a highly competitive unit rate of just 14p/kWh for the electricity consumed by the heat pump during its first year of operation. By transitioning to a heat pump and leveraging this new rate while capping their gas meter, households stand to save up to £450 within the initial year, compared to conventional heating systems reliant on D-rated gas boilers. These savings will be automatically applied to customers' energy bills each month. This initiative effectively addresses the ongoing operational costs associated with heat pumps, rendering them a more financially viable option for home heating while simultaneously reducing carbon emissions. Moreover, British Gas offers various payment options, including two years of interest-free credit, to further facilitate the adoption of heat pump technology.
This initiative is a response to recent research conducted by British Gas, revealing that 60% of UK homeowners are contemplating the installation of a heat pump in their homes.
