BIS Certification Now Mandatory for Fans, ACs, and Plywood in India

India: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has introduced mandatory certification for air conditioners (ACs) in India, requiring them to comply with specifications and bear the ISI logo. This new requirement comes alongside the existing certification from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, which previously indicated the energy efficiency of ACs.
As part of this initiative, BIS has expanded its compulsory registration scheme, now encompassing 380 products, including ceiling and table fans and plywood. Sabyasachi Dhar, head of the BIS Kolkata Branch-1, emphasized the need for compliance to ensure quality and safety in these sectors. To support micro and small-scale units in obtaining certification, BIS is offering substantial rebates on certification costs—80% for micro units and 60% for small-scale units.
Additionally, Dhar encouraged consumers to use the BIS Care app to verify the Hallmark certification of gold products during the upcoming festive season, highlighting the organization's commitment to promoting consumer awareness and protection.
