Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman Visits Malaysia and China to Boost Investment and Economic Cooperation

Bangladesh: Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has begun his first overseas visit since taking office, undertaking a six-day trip to Malaysia and China to attract investment, expand overseas employment and strengthen economic ties. During his China visit, Bangladesh is expected to sign 15–17 bilateral agreements, while discussions will include the Teesta River project and participation in the World Economic Forum's Summer Davos Forum. The visit follows approval of a USD 340 million infrastructure project for the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone in Chittagong, backed by concessional Chinese loans, with the project expected to create around 100,000 jobs and attract more than USD 500 million in foreign direct investment during its initial phase. In Malaysia, talks will focus on labour migration, recruitment of Bangladeshi workers and broader economic cooperation.
